The 2026 Quebec election. An astrological study.

The next provincial elections are not scheduled for another year—at least, if the current government adheres to the timeline established by law. Since we now know the foremost leaders running (including Québec Solidaire, which operates with two spokespeople), it is tempting to attempt an astrological forecast.

Of course, the future is not set in stone; too many variables prevent any claim to certainty. As always, we must recall that the stars incline but do not compel.

Furthermore, we do not know the birth times of any of the candidates, which limits us. Knowing the position of the Midheaven (MC) and the Ascendant (ASC) would clarify interpretation. One could attempt "rectifications," but such exercises have their limits.

Instead, let us explore the general "climate" of each chart over the coming year. What one is shapes one’s destiny. Since everything has its season, the planetary positions at birth suggest the "favourable seasons" for the individual. That is the claim of modern astrology.

The following is an entertaining exercise that can be refined over the coming year.

François Legault

François Legault. 1957/05/26.

The politician has enjoyed victories under the auspices of Jupiter and Uranus (I suspect he has Taurus rising). In this sense, the upcoming cabinet shuffle, scheduled in a few days, coincides with Jupiter transiting his natal Mars. This transit indicates an optimistic will to move forward.

Although generational, Pluto has been opposing Uranus in those born in 1957 since 2025, while Uranus squares natal Pluto. In short, 2025 and 2026 are lived under the sign of reform, struggle, regeneration, and attempts to find one’s place in the universe.

What helps François Legault is Pluto forming a trine to his natal Sun, while Uranus is conjunct that same Sun. However, during the election period, Saturn will also square natal Mars.

In short, the ocean ahead for Mr. Legault looks stormy and windy. One does not need to be an astrologer to make this prediction. Generally, when Uranus crosses the Sun (and this applies to Geminis at various points over the next eight years, depending on their birth dates), it is a time to break free, express oneself differently, and show an emancipated personality. In other words, facing the battle ahead, things will be volatile for Mr. Legault. If he manages to keep his boat afloat, it will be by showing himself to be "different," by finding a spark never shown before.

On election day, Mars will be crossing his natal Uranus (incidentally, Pluto will be opposing Uranus). Mercury will oppose natal Mercury, Saturn will square natal Mars, and if Legault truly has Taurus rising, Pluto will be square the horizon of the zodiac. These transits prefigure more like a very rough sea—a moment in his life when one decides to navigate toward other priorities. Whatever the outcome of the election, Mr. Legault’s gaze will, in any case, be turned toward entirely new horizons.

Paul Saint-Pierre Plamondon

Pierre Saint-Pierre Plamondon, 1977/02/17

Known as PSPP, he is "very Aquarian," and indeed, his rise to party leadership occurred during Uranus (ruler of Aquarius) squaring Mars (the action angle).

The Aquarian traits—social awareness, idealistic fixity, revolutionary in a sense—seem well anchored in Saint-Pierre Plamondon. It is worth noting that this is a fixed sign; behind ideas often considered liberating and humanitarian, there usually lurks certainty and even intransigence regarding the "truths" that fuel that idealism.

Much like François Legault, PSPP will live through the end of 2025 and part of 2026 under Uranus squaring his Sun. That said, his rise to leadership coincided precisely with the Uranus/Mars square, Mars being the start of a stellium in Aquarius. The Sun marks the end of that stellium, which included Mars, Mercury, the Moon, and the Sun (PSPP was born around a new Moon).

At election time, several planetary movements and astrological points are noteworthy: Chiron remains conjunct its natal position; the North Node transits his Sun; the fast-moving Moon has just crossed Saturn, probably opposing his natal Moon; the Sun is about to pass over Pluto; and Uranus—initially squaring Mars when he became leader—will now form a perfect trine to that same planet. Jupiter, however, will be square its natal position, almost opposite the Sun—often a sign of significant career change, growth, and accomplishment.

These transits indicate a period of great energy. Enough to imply victory?

Unclear. In 2026, Saturn will conjoin Venus (itself opposed to Pluto) before the election, a configuration that will not resolve until 2027. Saturn on Venus generally signals solitude, separation, or possible isolation, while Saturn opposing Pluto suggests a lack of means. Moreover, Pluto will conjoin Mars in 2027. A dramatic battle ahead?

But this could manifest in the personal sphere—or, in the case of defeat, in the abandonment of his leadership role.

Pablo Rodriguez

Pablo Rodriguez, 1967/06/22

One is tempted to attribute Leo rising to Mr. Rodriguez, judging by his mane of hair! And this would suit him well for winning the election, since Pluto would be in trine with that Ascendant, while Uranus could be at the peak of his chart, right on the MC.

Add to this Jupiter transiting Mercury and Venus during the summer of 2026, potentially concluding with Jupiter crossing his horizon—if Leo rising is correct.

Finally, Mr. Rodriguez will experience his Saturn return (around age 60), marking recognition of maturity and accumulated experience.

Thus, Pablo Rodriguez could be the candidate who upsets predictions and challenges the PQ’s prospects for victory. In any case, his astrological chart is the most harmonious of all the candidates.

The year 2026 begins on a very favourable note for him. Even if he does not win, he may still be perceived as the one who breathed new life into his party.

Éric Duhaime

Eric Duhaime, 1969/04/15

Éric Duhaime’s chart is peculiar, with a jagged form. With a massive stellium of seven astrological bodies, his conservative side is explained by Saturn’s presence almost at the midpoint between Sun and Mercury. Such charts often produce on/off destinies, with long periods of calm giving way to equally long periods of turmoil. On a smaller scale, this can play out seasonally year by year.

Throughout 2025 and 2026, Mr. Duhaime experiences Pluto square Mercury, ending a long plutonian influence over his life lasting more than twelve years. What does this mean? With Pluto, one never knows—it comes from the depths. Perhaps it has made him more visceral and dogmatic. Or at the very least, he has wrestled with deep doubts and reflections.

For the election—if held October 5—I see little for him, absent a birth time. His natal Moon lies between 3° and 16° Aries (a region traversed over 24 hours in 1969). Saturn firmly enters Aries at the beginning of 2026. We will see what this brings for him. Sobriety is advised.

Ruba Ghazal

Ruba Ghazal, 1977/12/06

We do not yet know the name of Québec Solidaire’s male co-spokesperson. No need for astrology to see that QS will not form the next government.

Jupiter will trine her Sun/Neptune conjunction and conjoin Mars, a good omen for her personal election. In this position, Jupiter will act as a bell upon the grand trine formed by Sun/Neptune/Mars/South Node, sextile to the North Node/Moon/Pluto stellium. A beautiful, idealistic kite! Ms. Ghazal actually has two kites in her natal chart. A voice worth listening to?

Conclusion

As stated at the outset, not knowing the candidates’ birth times limits interpretation. Be that as it may, I feel that PSPP is not out of the woods, and that Pablo Rodriguez seems the one who could enjoy smoother sailing on the political seas.

François Legault’s chart holds surprises. The upcoming election promises to be interesting!
